TDET logo.pngThomas Deacon Education Trust (TDET) encompasses a diverse group of academies, including primary, secondary and special education settings. As of 2024, the Trust has seven academies across Peterborough and its surrounding areas, serving over 5,000 students. Their academies work collaboratively to enhance educational outcomes through shared practices, resources and expertise.Recognising the ever-growing demands on education professionals, TDET aimed to advance its staff wellbeing strategies. The Trust sought to create a sustainable culture where staff feel supported, valued and empowered. In November 2024, they partnered with Still Human to deliver a bespoke Leading Staff Wellbeing course, funded through the Department for Education’s Senior Mental Health grant. This collaboration aimed to equip leaders and staff with the tools and strategies necessary to embed wellbeing at the heart of their educational practices.

A bespoke approach to wellbeing

Still Human designed a two-day Leading Staff Wellbeing course tailored for TDET’s Wellbeing team. The sessions focussed on transforming the Trust’s culture into one where “staff wellbeing matters” while building upon the outstanding practices already embedded in their culture.

1. Leading Staff Wellbeing modules

The team engaged in nine comprehensive modules, all supported by academic research. These modules provided strategies to enhance TDET’s best practices and create impactful wellbeing initiatives.

2. Action planning

By the end of the second day, participants had developed a clear plan with short, mid and long-term goals to elevate wellbeing practices across the Trust.

3. Resource pack

TDET received a comprehensive resource pack to guide the implementation of their Wellbeing Action Plan, ensuring its sustainability and long-term impact.

Leading Staff Wellbeing training feedback

"TDET is really pleased with the Leading Staff Wellbeing course we completed with Still Human. We started the course as a group of people who work for the same Trust but didn’t know each other. We left happy and motivated with a shared vision of what to do next. The delivery, pace and relevance of the course were all great, and our trainer tailored her responses to the needs of each individual. We really benefited from the Leading Staff Wellbeing course, and we’re keen for Still Human to work with our Executive team to further improve our staff wellbeing plans."
